The Need

Mark Herwaldt was recently diagnosed with ALS in 2016 and it is progressing FAST. He has been in full time youth ministry for 27 years in the Chicagoland area, working at Corpus Christi Church in Carol Stream, IL; Holy Angels in Aurora, IL and St. Pius in Lombard, IL. He has served in every phase of youth ministry including talks, retreats, camps, Confirmation training, preparation and youth leader training, and even pilgrimages with those youth to see the Pope in other countries. He has been married 30 years to his wife, Jan and has five children, his youngest in high school. Mark lost his own parents when he was 14 years old. Mark's dad was a shoe repairman in Glen Ellyn, IL and his dad watched or listened to the Cubs every single afternoon (never had night games back then), and passed his love of the Cubs on to Mark - who celebrated with the Cubs in Grant Park in November the somewhat miraculous reverse of the curse.

Jacob Martinez, originally from El Paso, Texas, now lives in Chicago and has studied Graphic Design at the Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago. Able to see art in just about anything, he uses his love of Chicago sports, street art, and Rap music to create pieces that are simple yet significant.
